Privacy Policy
Last updated: 24 June 2026
Cleaning Jobs (“Cleaning Jobs”, “we”, “us”, “our”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use this website and apply for cleaning work, why we collect it, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have.
We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 and its Information Privacy Principles (IPPs). “Personal information” means information about an identifiable individual.
Cleaning Jobs is the recruitment and onboarding arm of The Spruce Company. Cleaning Jobs is an operating name we use to assign cleaning work; it is not itself a separately registered business. When you apply through Cleaning Jobs, your information may be shared with The Spruce Company for onboarding and work allocation, as described below.
1. Who is responsible for your information
The agency responsible for the personal information collected through this website is:
Cleaning Jobs — the recruitment arm of The Spruce Company
Email: hello@cleaningjobs.co.nz
Phone: 0800 737 333
Postal: Unit 54/11 Northside Drive, Westgate, Auckland 0814, New Zealand
If you have any privacy question, request, or complaint, please contact us at hello@cleaningjobs.co.nz and we will make sure it reaches the person responsible for handling it.
2. The information we collect
2.1 Information you give us when you apply
When you complete our application form, we collect the information you provide, which may include:
- your name;
- your contact details (email address and phone number);
- your location (suburb or town, and region);
- your eligibility information, including your stated right to work in New Zealand (for example, whether you are a citizen, resident, or hold a work visa);
- your cleaning experience and transport situation;
- the types of cleaning work you are interested in, your general availability, and whether you are applying as an individual, a team, or a partnership; and
- anything else you choose to tell us in the free-text message field.
You do not have to give us this information, but if you don’t, we may not be able to assess your application or progress it.
2.2 Information we collect automatically
This is a static website. We do not run advertising or third-party analytics trackers on it, and we do not set non-essential or tracking cookies. Our hosting and content-delivery providers automatically keep standard server logs (such as IP address, device and browser type, and the pages requested) for security and reliability. See sections 4 and 9.
2.3 Information we collect from other people
We generally collect personal information directly from you. We do not currently carry out third-party background checks as part of this application. If you nominate a referee, or if we later need to verify information with someone other than you, we will take reasonable steps to make you aware of that collection and of the matters required by the Privacy Act, unless an exception applies.
Where a service provider simply handles information on our instructions (for example, our website host or email), that is treated as us collecting it directly, not as indirect collection.
3. Why we collect your information and how we use it
We collect and use your personal information for purposes connected with our function as a cleaning recruitment and onboarding service, including to:
- assess your application and decide whether there is a suitable next step;
- contact you about your application;
- verify your eligibility, including your right to work in New Zealand;
- coordinate onboarding and training to the Spruce standard for suitable applicants;
- share suitable applicants with The Spruce Company so you can be considered for work allocation (see section 4);
- keep your details on file so you do not need to re-apply for every suitable role;
- meet our legal obligations; and
- improve and secure our website and services.
We only collect personal information that is necessary for these purposes, and we will not use it for an unrelated purpose without your authorisation or another lawful basis.
A note on work allocation. Applying, being onboarded, or being certified does not guarantee work. Allocation depends on demand, suitability, availability, and certification.
4. When we share your information
We share your personal information only where necessary for the purposes above. This may include:
- The Spruce Company — so suitable applicants can be onboarded and considered for residential, commercial, and specialist cleaning work.
- Service providers who help us run our website, such as our website hosting provider (Vercel) and our DNS and content-delivery provider (Cloudflare). These providers act on our instructions and are not permitted to use your information for their own purposes.
- Regulators, law enforcement, or others where we are required or permitted by law to disclose information.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for unrelated third-party marketing.
5. Sending information outside New Zealand
Some of our service providers store or process information outside New Zealand. In particular, our hosting provider (Vercel) and our DNS and content-delivery provider (Cloudflare) operate servers in the United States and in other countries through their global networks.
Where we disclose personal information to a provider outside New Zealand, we will only do so where, consistent with the Privacy Act:
- the provider is subject to privacy laws or binding obligations that provide comparable safeguards to the Privacy Act 2020; or
- you have authorised the disclosure after being told that your information may not be protected to New Zealand standards; or
- another exception under the Act applies.
By submitting an application, you acknowledge that your information may be stored and processed overseas by our providers as described above.
6. How we store and protect your information
We take reasonable steps to keep your personal information safe from loss, misuse, and unauthorised access, use, or disclosure. This site is served only over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, we use reputable providers for hosting and delivery, and we limit access to application information to the people who need it to assess and progress your application.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you have concerns about the security of your information, please contact us at hello@cleaningjobs.co.nz.
7. How long we keep your information
We keep your personal information only for as long as it is needed for the purposes set out in this policy, or for as long as we are required to keep it by law.
If your application does not proceed, we will keep your details on file so that you can be considered for future suitable work, unless you ask us to delete them. You can ask us to delete your information at any time (see section 8), and we will do so unless we are required to keep it.
8. Your privacy rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you; and
- Request correction of that information if you think it is wrong.
To make a request, contact us at hello@cleaningjobs.co.nz. We will respond as soon as reasonably practicable and within the timeframes required by the Privacy Act. There is generally no charge to access your own information. If we decline a correction request, you may ask us to attach a statement noting that you requested a correction.
Marketing. If we ever contact you with optional updates, you can opt out at any time by replying or using any unsubscribe link. We will not send you marketing you have not agreed to receive.
9. Cookies and website analytics
Our website uses only the essential cookies needed for the site to work. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party analytics that track you across the web. You can control or clear cookies through your browser settings at any time.
10. Applicants’ age
Our application service is intended for people who are legally able to work in New Zealand. We do not knowingly collect information from children through this website.
11. Privacy breaches
If a privacy breach occurs that we reasonably believe has caused, or is likely to cause, serious harm, we will notify the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and any affected individuals as soon as we practically can, in line with our obligations under the Privacy Act 2020.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be available on this website, and the “Last updated” date at the top shows when it last changed.
13. How to contact us or make a complaint
If you have a question or concern about your privacy, or you want to make a complaint, please contact us first at hello@cleaningjobs.co.nz. We will take your complaint seriously and try to resolve it.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner:
